How does Saevious know what a product used to cost?

An automated job reads UK retailers' product feeds once a day and records the price of every offer it finds. Those recordings build up over time into the chart on each product page. Nothing is estimated or reconstructed: if a price was not observed, it is not on the chart.

Is the discount shown on Saevious real?

Accepted Answer

Each product page states the lowest and highest price we have ever recorded and how many days the product has been tracked, so a discount can be judged against what the product has actually cost rather than against a retailer's stated RRP. Falls that look implausible — a 90% drop is usually a retailer flagging an item as out of stock — are marked as such rather than removed.

How current are the prices?

Prices are refreshed once a day, so any price can be up to 24 hours old. Every product page shows when its price was last checked. Retailers can change a price at any time, so the retailer's own site is always the final word.

Does Saevious cover every UK shop?

Accepted Answer

No. It carries products from the retailers available through one affiliate network's UK feed. A product missing from Saevious usually means there is no feed for the shop selling it, not that the product does not exist.

How does Saevious make money?

Commission, when someone follows a link to a retailer and buys. The price paid is the same either way, no retailer can pay for a better position in results, and there is no advertising on the site. Every outbound link to a retailer is marked as a paid link.

Does Saevious sell anything itself?

No. It never takes payment, holds stock, or ships anything. It links out to the retailer, who handles the sale, the delivery and any return.
